Did you know that women-owned firms in the United States are growing at twice the rate of other firms?  According to the Center for Women’s Business Research (CWBR) and OPEN from American Express, women-owned firms brought in revenue of $1.1 trillion and created 7.2 million jobs in 2006. 

California is ranked as the number 1 state for majority women-owned firms (MWO) with 1,052,249 firms equaling 31.5% of all privately owned firms.  These MWO firms had sales of $152 billion and provided jobs for 961,021 employees.  Susan Sobbott, president of OPEN from American Express stated, “over the past 10 years, the number of majority women-owned firms within the top 10 states grew by 64%, and the number of those companies with employees increased 17%.”  (June-July 2007 issue of Pink Magazine)
